Boat Journey series aluminum prints, available in 8"x8", 24"x24", 24"x36"
A dual tension of the impossibility of full assimilation in a new land and the difficulty of returning and reintegrating in one’s own culture gives me the idea for Boat Journey, an ongoing photographic project, which focuses on a quest for a place where we, immigrants, seek to belong. Captured by prairies and coasts, a figure dressed in traditional Vietnamese tunic and pant, áo dài, holds onto a small makeshift leather boat. This boat is the ticket, the passport to the escapades. However, it gets stuck on the land, can never be set free.
Thirty one images from this series were on display at Amarillo Museum of Art, visit this project's installment at Amarillo Museum of Art exhibition page.
