[In]translation one-channel HD video with sound,
vinyl & acrylic on canvas, serigraphs, and engravings on plastic
[In]translation video piece reveals the conflicting sensibilities I encountered when self-recording myself discussing my artistic work using English, Vietnamese (verbal languages), and visual language. In the process of creating How Long Does It Takes? painting series, the video piece was the infrastructure for my compositions. I construct simple visual forms of black boxes or white boxes on white canvas or black canvas to represent the confusion I battled and the duration it took me to answers each of the questions both in English, Vietnamese, and visual language. The simplicity of recognizable forms conflicts with the complexity of this translation process. I extended my experiment to screen printing and engravings.
